Easy track
Starting from Mala Car Park on Uluru Road, Petermann, this walk takes you on a circuit around the sandstone monolith Uluru (also known as Ayers Rock), visiting multiple rock caves, ancient paintings and a waterhole along the way. This iconic walk lets you view the magnificent 500.000 year old rock formation from every angle whilst informing you about the rich history of the area. A sacred land to the Aboriginal Anangu People, this area holds great cultural importance. You can join guided tours and listen to some historic stories or read the informational signposts and learn about it yourself. The track is wheelchair friendly under dry conditions but has some steep sections as well. Bring plenty of water and a fly net to have a better experience. Come early in the morning and finish the walk before midday to avoid the extreme heat. Let us begin by acknowledging the Anangu people, Traditional Custodians of the land on which we travel today, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Getting started
From Mala Car Park on Uluru Road, head towards the white informational signposts along the dirt path. Pass by the said signposts to your right and head along the sealed trail as you keep the rock formation to your right to continue along Uluru Base Circuit(clockwise). This is the recommended direction of travel.....

Find the water tap at the start.
Find the Base of Uluru Climb at the start.
At the intersection of Mala Walk & Lungkata Walk veer left, to head along Mala Walk (a walking track).
After another 25 m (from the Mala Walk) continue straight, to head along Mala Walk.
After another 95 m (from the Mala Walk) continue straight, to head along Mala Walk.
After another 60 m pass the "Itjaritjatiku Yuu" (9 m on your right).
After another 15 m (from the Mala Walk) turn right, to head along Mala Walk.
After another 85 m cross the bridge (about 25 m long)
After another 55 m pass the "Kulpi Nyiinkaku" (20 m on your right).
From the Mala Walk continue straight, to head along Mala Walk.
After another 30 m pass the "Kulpi Watiku" (8 m on your right).
After another 20 m (from the Mala Walk) turn right, to head along Mala Walk.
After another 20 m cross the bridge (about 30 m long)
The starting point of an optional sidetrip. This optional side trip takes you to the Kantju Gorge, passing by two caves along the way. May add around 20 minutes to your hike. To start this optional side trip veer right here. On returning from this side trip turn right when you get back to this intersection. Details below.
After another 140 m (at the intersection of Base Walk & Mala Walk) veer left, to head along Base Walk.
After another 135 m (from the Base Walk) turn right, to head along Base Walk.
After another 520 m (from the Base Walk) veer right, to head along Base Walk.
After another 125 m (from the Base Walk) continue straight, to head along Base Walk.
After another 2.2 km pass the "Northern Uluru Base Walk" (on your left).
After another 10 m pass the shelter (on your left).
After another 1.1 km (from the Base Walk) continue straight, to head along Base Walk.
After another 7 m (from the Base Walk) continue straight, to head along Base Walk.
After another 370 m (from the Base Walk) continue straight, to head along Base Walk.
After another 145 m (from the Base Walk) continue straight, to head along Base Walk.
After another 95 m pass the shelter.
Then pass the water tap (6 m on your left).
At the intersection of Base Walk South & Base Walk turn right, to head along Base Walk South.
Then pass the "Kuniya Piti" (on your left).
After another 590 m pass a seat (on your right)., has a backrest.
After another 740 m (from the Base Walk South) continue straight, to head along Base Walk South.
After another 135 m pass a seat (5 m on your left)., has a backrest.
After another 8 m pass the shelter (5 m on your left).
After another 5 m cross the bridge (about 10 m long)
After another 700 m pass the shelter (10 m on your left).

After another 9 m (from the Lungkata Walk) turn right, to head along Lungkata Walk.
After another 8 m cross the bridge (about 30 m long)
After another 10 m (from the Lungkata Walk) turn left, to head along Lungkata Walk.
After another 35 m (at the intersection of Lungkata Walk & Kuniya Walk) turn right, to head along Lungkata Walk.
After another 20 m cross the bridge (about 10 m long)
After another 430 m head through the bollard.
From the Lungkata Walk veer right, to head along Lungkata Walk.
After another 150 m head through the bollard.
After another 540 m (from the Lungkata Walk) continue straight, to head along Lungkata Walk.
After another 990 m (at the intersection of Lungkata Walk & Punu Walk) turn right, to head along Lungkata Walk.
Continue another 45 m to find from the Uluru Road at the end.

This little side trip takes you to the Mutitjulu Waterhole (Kapi Mutitjulu).

After 60 m pass the "Kulpi Mutitjulu" (35 m on your left).
From the Kuniya Walk turn right, to head along Kuniya Walk.
After another 85 m cross the bridge (about 15 m long)
After another 80 m cross the bridge (about 10 m long)
About 25 m past the end is "Mutitjulu Waterhole (Kapi Mutitjulu).".

This lush and shady waterhole is permanent and home to many animals such as wallabies. The Dalai Lama and the British Royals are amongst the well-known people that visitied this little place of peace. Experience it yourself as you listen to the birdsong and water.
