A nice walk if you are in the area, and worth doing before Pulpit Rock lookout. This walk is not as busy as many of the other lookout walks in the area. The view across the valley is fantastic. The lookout makes a great place for a picnic lunch, and the lack of crowds makes it that much more attractive. Let us begin by acknowledging the Dharug & Gundungurra people, Traditional Custodians of the land on which we travel today, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Turn on to Hat Hill Road then drive for 7.1 km
Keep left onto Anvil Rock Road and drive for another 530 m

Getting started Getting there. Drive along the Great Western Hwy to Blackheath (West of Katoomba). Near the train station you will see a signpost pointing to Pulpit rock on Hat Hill Road. Follow Hat Hill Road - After about 2km it turns into a dirt road. Continue along the main road for almost another 6.5 km following the signs to Anvil Rock. There is a carpark at the end of the road.
From the signposted corner of the car park, the track exits the car park and initially skirts around a large sandstone rock. It then follows the top of a narrow ridge line. On the walk along the ridge, there are several nice rocky outcrops and glimpses of the Grose Valley. Before long, Anvil Rock will be visible (it is the one with the metal handrails that does look a little bit like an anvil). Nearer to the rock, there is a clear path around to the right. The walk follows the handrail and, once on the other side, there is a large lookout area with wonderful views of the Grose Valley. There is a basic fence around the lookout, but there are a number of potentially dangerous cliffs on this walk, so be careful.....
