The solution for good coffee drinkers

I saw the note there about the Aeropress mini. It fits all standard aeropress kit, its just shorter. So far its my "travel" coffee maker, until I can get new parts for my Cafflano Kompresso. Overall its a better travel package than walking one, but for a couple nights wouldn't be too out of the question, as the cleanup is still better than a lot of the paperless cone options.
As far as nesting, it all fits together quite nicely. I tote it in a 3L sistema box with a small GSI insulated cup, and nalgene food jars for the coffee. Overall I can do a week of coffees in a nice tidy pack. The included cup works very well, and does duty as a carafe if you were making coffee for two to split. Though I tend to not drink from it directly as it is large enough that a two-shot cools faster than I'd like. But would be fine if you were of the americano persuasion.

I'm sure I mentioned the Cafflano before, its good, but the main plunger seal in mine seems to have a problem, and they are still suffering shipping delays (really unfortunate, my grinder from them is very late, but that's the gamble) So its on the shelf for now. For me though, it didn't end up being better enough to make it worth while for walking. I can cowboy it or use the GSI screen, or go turkish if I'm counting grams. Espresso is a road-trip luxury.

Found it! $3.50 from a little shop in St Albans Melbourne and should be easy to find in any Asian-style "has a bit of everything" shop.

Only need to carry the tray and cup pieces. The tamp is unnecessary and sharp. The whole kit would come in under 20g easily, maybe as low as 10g.

Just enjoyed a particularly delicious coffee in my hotel room! No need for paper filters and honestly it makes the modern coffee gizmos obsolete

Edit, good if you are not in a hurry! Two sets of tiny holes, having a little trouble to get it to drip so might have to tweak the device a bit.

Try a more coarse grind than for espresso. That works on mine.

After minipresso, gsi drip, coffee bags,aeropress, I have by default gone cowboy coffee.
I take my French press away working with me and accidentally smashed it with no chance of purchasing another in my remote work location. Had to just stir grounds in and was pleasantly surprised at the 'sinkage' to the bottom.
Definitely will be my walking go to from now on.

Yes, we also go cowboy coffee. Simple, and does the job.

Not sure if I’m telling you what you already know, but, once it’s simmered for a bit, let it sit for a few minutes, and then tap the side of the billy with a spoon etc, which aids precipitation of the grounds.

I never would have tried cowboy coffee had I not been staring down night shift with a smashed coffee press. My clumsiness and sheer desperation will now reap packweight rewards!

You can buy stainless steel coffee presses - guaranteed not to shatter. A friend had them on his boat and still has them 15 years later, boat is long gone.

Stainless would have stopped me shattering it for sure, might get one for my travel for work,I also take an airfryer. Definitely not travelling light!

Although happy enough for the accident, the cowboy method was most satisfactory and something I wouldn't gave otherwise tried

Hmmmm..... I wonder if the plastic plunger from a glass French Press (plunger) unit would fit my Toaks mug/pot??? The plungers are often in Op Shops for a couple of $$. More research to come.

I tried one of the plunger thingys in Feb for the first time for a week on holidays.
I used so much coffee making something reasonably strong it cost me a *&%$#! ..What! I can't even type blooody on an Oz forum- is this some bible belt tightening I've missed?

What about a *&%$#! finger? That's outrageous - does a bear *&%$#! in the woods? Apparently not!

'Cowboy' coffee certainly works but I found I would take that one sip too many & be spitting out the grounds. So, I use a tea filter (a basket that sits in the cup - similar to the pic below, lid not required). You can dunk it multiple times to extract more out of the grind or just let it sit for a wee while - works well.

Interesting you know it as a tea filter.
The MSR mug mate first came on the scene over twenty years ago now. We were retailing it at K2 Base Camp in Brisbane for $50.
I know, outrageous.
A few years later a couple of copies hit the market. Only difference was the colour of the mesh. And the branding.
I picked up a couple more from Macpac for $5 each.
It’s always been our go to. Better than coffee bags or anything else.

Imo, coffee bags are somewhat like instant coffee - decidedly lacking in coffee.
