This is a recommended list of gear that should be carried on day walks (bushwalks less than a whole day, with no overnight camping).
- walking boots
- walking clothes
- back pack
- water bottle
- gaiters (mud/bushes/snakes)
- hat (sun protection)
- balaclava / beanie
- gloves
- waterproof clothes
- thermal underwear
- very warm top (eg, wool/polarfleece jumper/jacket)
- first aid kit
- toilet paper
- small spade or trowel for lavatory duty
- maps
- compass
- whistle
- food
- sun glasses (snow glare)
- camera & film
- cards &/or book
- sunscreen lotion
