Tarn
From Bushwalk Australia
Geologically, a tarn is a lake that has formed in the bowl of a glacial cirque after the glacier itself has melted away (eg, Lake Oberon).
However, it is often used in non-geological contexts to refer to a small lake in the mountains or high country.
In Tasmanian bushwalking contexts, a tarn is a pool or small lake (eg, Flynn's Tarn).
