Snow Pole

From Bushwalk Australia

Jump to: navigation, search

A type of track or route marker used above the snowline. Snow poles are usually quite tall to ensure that they remain visible above deep snow. They often have some type of reflective panel and/or are painted with luminous paint to help them stand out when visibility is poor. In remote highland areas they are sometimes improvised by simply using long tree branches with brightly coloured ribbon or tape attached to the top.
