From Bushwalk Australia
In bushwalking terminology this refers to a dome-shaped tent that uses the geodesic design principle. This principle is used to achieve higher strength than other tent types. It is based on a series of triangles formed by overlapping poles. They usually have more poles than other tent designs and the extra poles provide greater strength and stability, minimising unsupported fabric. They are generally heavier than other tents, and are often "expedition grade" or "mountaineering" types used in climatic extremes.
