I don't know why anyone would want to go, it's a terrible place........ :D
Shh, keep it quite that it's enjoyable to periodically travel over there for a wee tramping trip.
I'm averaging once a year, last 5 years in a row now. People say why don't you go some place else, I just shrug (I'm sure some others will know what I'm on about)
Be over there mid March, Northburn 100 Ultramarathon here I come, I'm a wuzz though and am only tackling the 50km loop......
Maybe next year the 100 miles will tempt me when I have some more time running, better endurance base etc.

There, It's out. I said it, Ahh I feel better now

Not by preference Wayno. Just can't find the time and money to get across. And when I do its usually for a family event of some sorts with no time to spare.

C. Nah, then we'd have to mow it.
-------------------------

We have been 5 times in total since early '90s (wife is a wee NZ gal), but it was only the last visit that we bushwalked (Milford and Routeburn).
It is a fairly expensive exercise for a family of 4, but we were there for a month all up. A few days in Queenstown after the walks helped run up the $$ tally though - but the best fun and great vibe (for a few days).
We'll definitely be back for more walking, prettiest place Ive been, but will be in the 3-5 year category due to expense.

On two of the other visits we hired a motorhome, which was a fantastic way to have a look at NZ. Every time I go there I want to move there (and then I manage to see thru the holiday coloured glasses :D )

during the recession the prices in queenstown went up, significantly, not that it was a cheap place to visit in the first place...

I look for any reason to go to NZ. I have now lost count at over 40 trips. I only go for the back country. I don't know anyone there.
I never gave it much thought before 1999. There has always been more than enough to do here in Australia. It just wasn't on my radar.
I had been bushwalking, climbing, paddling, mountain biking for almost 30 years. I had joined a club in 1998 looking for more like minded people.
Two fellas asked me to tag along on the Wilkins - Young. I had no idea what to expect.
Now it's just another location a few hours from home. I've done many a daywalk in Qld/ Nsw where the driving has been three hours from home.
NZ trips have been from three days to 5 weeks and every minute counts for activities.

About to start walking in NZ a whole lot more when I return to live in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to it!

If I could go to all the places in Tassie I want to visit in my life time, I'd probably save up to go back and visit NZ after that.
Edit: I'm a bit ambivalent - the 'classic' walks are too commercialised for me now, but I don't have the experience in NZ to go to some of the more remote places without someone who does, and I don't have one of those people to go with. But I haven't actually looked into it at this point.

Visited last year for the first time. Mix of touring with some day walking, enough to whet my appetite for something more substantial. Definitely plan to go back.

What part of NZ are you going to?

Marlborough for now, where I grew up, and then from there wherever the work takes me.
