I had the best trip for a long time in the Oz Alps esp. to
the Kosci. N.P., NSW.
The 45 km Jagungal wilderness circuit hike was amazing. 3
Nights , 3 huts, , walking on old 4 wd Parks management fire
trails.Standing on top of the Mt. Jagungal alone at 2061 M.
was incredible.
All one could see 360 degrees around from the summit to the
horizon all around was mountain wilderness. There was till a
patch or two of snow on Mt . Kosci. , one could see it from
the top of Mt . Jagungal .

I didn't see many people out there each day , maybe one or two and some rangers in their 4 WD vehicles. At the campsites
at the huts I did meet other walkers.
The flies , esp. march
flies were intense and having a head net was a life saver. The
sun was intense too. I ended up walking in long pants to keep
the blood sucking insects off me.
I stayed at Round Mtn. Hut on Thursday night 5/1/17. It is good hut with a good camp site for tents , water and decent views of Mt . Jag. The next day, Friday , I crossed the Tumut river easily and forged on up and across Farm Ridge. I dropped down into the valley at Bogong creek and climbed up again , reaching O ' Keefe's hut in a fairly shattered state .
The next day I set off for Derchshko's hut on Sat. morning where I set up camp . I made a summit assault without much of my gear and without oxygen ;-P on Mt. Jagungal coming up from the Tumut river headwaters. The track was easy to follow. I made it back to the hut by 3.45 pm.
The weather had clouded over by then so I was lucky with the sunny clear summit views. That was super.
The last day was the hike back to the car at Round Mtn. car park. I knocked that over by 12.30 pm , having left at 8 am. I did not see anybody while walking alone on the last day. I liked the lack of people, lack of fees, lack of man made stuff . I shall return with others to show them what great wilderness hike it is .
I stayed at the Khancoban Alpine Inn Motel on Sunday 8/1/17 and
had some creature comforts incl. a real shower, a a swimming
pool and a real bed.
I felt much better having completed that trek , solo.

Just a quick point of clarification.

are not these things man made? I am sure you are referring to something else.

Yes, the 4 WD tracks and huts are man made but as compared with living in Melbourne it was *&%$#! good stuff , not busy like the Southern Prom is and it is very close to nature, with plenty of nothing out there , if you get my meaning. Let us not split hairs . The KNP is a good stuff but the Jagungal wilderness is quite different from some of the sections of the park that you approach via Jindabyne etc. You must walk a fair way in the middle of nowhere to get to Mt. Jagungal unlike the summer hordes going up from the chairlift at the Eagle's nest to Mt. Kosci. .
