Butcherbirds are always okay, tough little things they are.
Saw a nice little Marsh snake in the yard about an hour ago, went to water some seedlings in my best thongs and socks and there was a pretty little snake a couple of feet away.

Last week my wife and I were walking our dog, on the way home walking up the road towards our house a platypus was waddling down the road towards us, he then went off into the bush. no photo , left our phones at home.
We have a dam on our property and he had been in that a couple of weeks ago. There are a few dams around us and I think he must do the rounds.

Very belatedly, I share your joy. Have only been hearing them occasionally from a distance until this evening, when for the first time in a year, a family visited for some water and a few food scraps. Joyous vocalisations ensued (mainly from the birds, with a bit also from the lucky humans present).

I still remembered your post, also from about one year ago, and wondered why there might be a long time between visits. I guess we'll never know, but that's ok.

At the moment we are sharing our backyard with a recently shed, beautiful pea green tree snake...I wondered why the frogs in our pond have been silent over the last couple of nights...

We'll need a photo of that ;) ;)

Seems both the adult Buff Banded Rails managed to avoid the escaped cat(not mine) and have had two more chicks, they spend a fair bit of time in the yard but are very rarely seen. They were almost black but are now starting to lighten up as their new feathers come through.

A few days ago i spied a brown coloured roadrunner looking chick darting around the garden, I hear it chirping occasionally, looks strong & healthy, flutters up to a branch if it has to...reminds me of a Swamphen.

I'll have to get a closer look before the local cats cotton on to a easy meal.

I'm back in the big smoke, not far from Melbourne, so I don't get much wildlife here at all but we do have plenty of birds along the beach 200 meters away.
Anyway, I shot this starling feeding on the neighbour olive tree overflowing onto my side :

There is a funny story behind this shot.
When we inspected this house , about 4 years ago, there was another couple having a look at it.
The wife remarked that she did not like the place because there were starlings about and they carry diseases.
We were glad they did not make an offer for it.

Unusual visitor, yesterday morning...a nervous Chukar.
Not a native to our shores but nice on the eyes...

I don't often have anything to report. But today While I was digging the services trench for the new shed I was visited by a pair of pardalopes. The first in our backyard in may decades If they are nesting in the huge pile of garden soil in the back yard then the pile can stay there until the hatchlings are ready to fly.
Now anybody have any ideas about how to make a nest bx for a tunneling species> Sand packed into PVC plumbing pipe??
Not the best pictures but it was the camera to hand
